Quantity Surveyors play an important role in taking project plans to reality. They are responsible for working out what a project is going to cost, developing a budget and in some cases making sure that construction costs are managed efficiently. Projects can involve many tens of millions of dollars.

The Quantity Surveyor translates plans into detailed schedules of quantities on which tenders can be called and evaluated. Once accepted the Quantity Surveyor can determine when payments are required, so financial resources can be managed. For those numerically-minded and with an interest in construction, there are opportunities for careers in Quantity Surveying in the contracting and consulting sectors.
